If Chauncey Billups was a rapper he would be Method Man. Sure, everyone knows who he is and that he’s good, but few people can point to a single specific performance to define him as such. And what makes both so unheralded is actually what makes them great; they are so good at doing what they do and at multiple facets consistently, that they are taken for granted.
The 90’s were great for a lot of things but watching All Star game highlights of years past this weekend reminded me how awesome some of the hair was in those games, and for the entire decade. Since Dennis Rodman’s hairstyles over the week of a season in those days could fill up the list on his own, I decided to omit him and reach a little deeper….
5) Mike Gminski’s Hair Hat
When Jerry Sloan retired last week it made me face a sad reality; that I am getting old. By him retiring, it’s like another link to being a kid watching the NBA is now gone. As long as these guys continue to play, it means we’re not old. But now with no Sloan to turn to, who else should I be rooting for in the interest of keeping my youthful appearance? Here’s a short list:
Would anyone even notice if the Three Point Shootout was replaced by an offhand layup drill? Does anyone really believe Daequan Cook or Paul Pierce are potentially the best three point shooters in the league? Did you know Jason Kapono won the title in back to back years? The only reason I did is because I Wikipedia-ed it.
If you answered “no” to any of these questions like I did, then you are as desensitized by the three point shootout as I am. Which is very sad because I used to love it.

I’m standing right behind you like I have been all season. I know you are trying hard not to notice me, but I’m not going anywhere. Sure, it’s been pretty easy to forget about me for the time being because the league is doing well. The Knicks are good again which suddenly revitalizes the NBA’s largest media market. Regular season games are getting their highest ratings since 2004. Blake Griffin is a freak and is proving a year away was worth the wait.
